The text below is a precis of the real discussion, see PMSP for the complete text. A resignation letter is possibly the most emotionally difficult letter that you have to write. It is imperative that it be upbeat and positive and non-emotional. You really don't know when you will see these people again, as peers, subordinates, or supervisors.

Your letter should be short, simple, to the point and have five elements, we list three here.

1. Thank them for the opportunity of working there.

2. You have enjoyed working there, the professional and personal associations and especially the work.

3. You look forward to working with them again in the future.
