Interview Types

There are Five Types of Interviews: As part of our series we also discuss at length the following:

There are at least five very different types of actual Interviews. These can manifest themselves as written, TS or FTF. Below we have provided a very limited discussion of each. From time-to-time we will elucidate further on this concept, suffice it to say, we believe it is incumbent on you as a candidate to prepare for each. Remember, the best answer to any question maybe a question. All interviews after all are just glorified sales calls.

Types of Interviews:

  1. Credential…IE resume or career review Concentration on past history, tasks, successes, failures and contributions. ACP CPD
  2. Informational…pointed conversation toward drawing out information on candidate, prior companies or market place. Could or could not be a real interview with an actual job available.
  3. Casual…almost conversational It is designed to lull you into mistakes, misstatements, negative thoughts or discussion. Reason: to eliminate candidates.
  4. Behavioral…..What would you do if? How would handle the following….. When you had a tough decision to make on termination what process did you… Reason: To see how the candidate thinks/reasons on their feet. This is an attempt to make the hypothetical situation real. (There are actually several types of this kind of interview.)
  5. Sales…The HA attempts to sell you the job. There are several kinds of this but 2 stand out. Either the HA has real interest or they have no interest at all and are merely being polite for the time allotted. Reasons: To buy a candidate or make the interviewer look good. There is a third more nefarious reason, as a way to throw off the candidate from doing their S.A.L.E.S Interview.
