Once you understand the 5 major roles of the gatekeeper you will be able to circumvent them or use them as influence makers in your search.
It is very possible that the C Level's admin expects to be treated with the same respect as the C level person. Indeed, they should. Engage them in your search, don't try to get around them, use them to be your advocate. They may have actually seen more credentials than the C level. Ask for their input.
They can be both a blocker and an advocate in your efforts to reach the "boss." S/he is hired to do 4 of the below tasks, but the position almost requires the development of the 5th role which is you entry card to reach the decision makers.
As people work the system the 5th role often becomes the main role of the Office Moat Tender and Leader Defender, and it is that role which you use as a person of opportunity to reach the only person who can determine your fate with the company.
