Emotions After
AFTER TERMINATION
Your emotions just after a termination or the death of an opportunity.
Below is a précis of a chapter in my book.
Having just gotten off the phone with a prospective new referral candidate after his being told of the imminent demise of his company. I knew it was important to place this on the website. I have discussed this prior, but a reminder is necessary. It is vital that we not blame ourselves for the termination/bankruptcy of the company. It is the reality of business careers today.
We are all sales people in Transition. Some sales calls work, others don’t.
What to expect:
You will feel all of the below. If you do not; you most likely need to talk it out. Here I give you three, the remainder are addressed in the PMSP© book.
Shock
Disbelief
Blame (self)
There is always life after your last assignment.
It is important that you face your emotions, share them with people you love and trust, chronicle them in writing, if necessary.
As we explain in our book; do not take the anger with you to the job interview, or the next job. That anger will destroy you. We all have failures, the question is do we allow it to cripple us or does it renew our belief in ourselves.
The professional must find a way to transcend that fear of embarrassment, break though to the courage that we all possess. The real truth is that there is no ideal, no perfection, we all make mistakes. The most serious mistake we can make, however, is the positioning that we take to cover the alleged miscue in judgment. We all will, by our very nature, make “mistakes.” The mistake is that we forget that we will always be less than perfect; our error in judgment is not the mistake in employment, but our elaborate attempt to either cover it up or to take excessive blame ourselves.
As we have often in our book and this site, there is life after XYZ company. Go out and find that new life with verve not guilt or blame and a renewed desire to succeed. Transition Compass products can help.
Candidate Initiative Search Assignment - The CISA process allows us, as your advocate, to penetrate to the invisible positions that are only created by the decision makers and get you noticed, get you interviewed, and then get THAT NEXT job.
