Manager's Hidden Agenda

THE 7 SILENT HIRING DECISIONS, to the best of our knowledge this is the only duplicative page on the site. This information also appears on other pages, but we thought it was worth coalescing the information in one place, for a more detailed explanation please see our book.

There are as we have discussed; more than one interview going on at the same time, yours and the hiring authority (HA).

Interview Hidden Agenda Items

A. The below points are constantly in the subconscious of every Hiring Authority as they "consider" you for the JOB.

(Below are the eight underlying conversations that are going on simultaneously in the mind of the hiring authority): They are written as if the manager is talking to him/herself. Are you prepared to answer them, without the manager asking them?

  1. Will hiring you reduce HA’s stress, make them more money, or possibly get them promoted?
  2. Will hiring you be best for the: our company, my career, my family, the candidate and the clients of our company
  3. Do you have measurable: Accomplishments, Competencies, and Potentials that can mitigate my immediate RISK of hire?
  4. When I put this representative in the street is he/she a used-to-be, a has-done, a can-do or a will-do.
  5. If I put this candidate in the street will he/she embarrass me or him/herself?
  6. Was the candidate’s presentation of “his/her product” done professionally?
  7. Do I get value for my recruiting dollar? Is this the best I can afford out there? V=N+A-C©

Since I know that if the sales cycle or job task is long, six months or better, and my “new” hire cannot really be evaluated in 3 months or less, and since I am exposed for a long period before my new hire becomes productive; am I not better off making no decision on hire. We have to HELP them see past their risk. You need to present the best "product" and in the most attractive form. That is the purpose of this site and the CIP. V=N+A-C© Use it.
