CLP: Height

CLP Presentation

This presentation product is designed specifically for C/level candidates or those seeking a position as a divisional/president. It is a viable option for those not wanting to use the tri-fold format as part of their "get noticed" campaign. The author does feel that the content should be duplicated as described below.

While recruiting, in order to separate my candidates out from the herd; we developed the use of the precursor to the tri-fold product; it consisted of a candidate narrative, candidate descriptor and an accomplishment report. Each of these above items was sent individually via e-mail to my hiring manager contact prior to sending my candidate’s resume. My candidates always prepared each of the above items and I participated in helping to edit them only, but they were always in my candidate’s words.

Contents: For those C level clients here is twist of the tri-fold process. You can develop a presentation notebook or binder that includes the following information with cover sheet that would mimic the contact information in the first column of the Tri-Fold and an untraditional cover letter explaining the reason for the submission of this candidate presentation format, your narrative, still written in the third person, the descriptor or list of attributes, a relatively extensive accomplishment report, your resume with accomplishments, tear sheet, and a closing page which again reiterates your contact information and your “tagline." The cover letter needs to be custom written for each company, market segment and unique image their specific product mix offers. I would also include the Candidate Needs Assessment's, goals and motivators, plus a page of selected referral comments.

This C Level Presentation (CLP) does in no way change my absolute belief in the Tri-Fold product but on specific occasions when a client feels that the Tri-Fold process is "hokey" it allows them to present the same information in an alternative presentation format or in a spiral binder. As with the Tri-Fold this CLP product is only sent by mail or hand delivered, it is not e-mailed. Like the Tri-Fold an e-mail presentation could and potentially will destroy its impact. As with the Tri-Fold, we do also have the tear page designed for the email purpose.

Each of the parts of the product above are prepared in the same manner as the Tri-Fold with the same attention to and level of detail. As with any advertising material, you are judged not only by the text but by the presentation itself. The instructions remain the same for the use of the Tri-Fold, it should be sent using the 18 day program to the chairman of the board, president or CEO of parent company, or additionally to the retained search firm if they are involved in the selection process of a candidate for this position. Just as in the Tri-Fold program once the CLP is sent by mail it is incumbent upon you to call directly to the person to whom you sent it.  This presentation will get you noticed, it will get you past the chatter in the marketplace, it is aggressive but it is also effective. It is the 21st century marketing product for the chief executive officer. Please follow the 18 Day Program. You may also consider sending the CLP to each board Member, as they sit on numerous boards.

As with the Tri-Fold, the CLP product will have the same threefold impact. First, it is a personal marketing vehicle about you as a candidate with all of you selling and contact information. Secondly, it is a convenient demonstration tool that can and will illustrate your proficiencies as a candidate. Finally, the CLP allows the recipient to instantly feel and embrace your professional ability, creative zeal determination and diligence. The CLP and the Tri-Fold resonate with their recipients because they allow each person that sees or reviews the documents to understand what you will be like after hire. As we've said in the past, it is just not a regurgitation of your titles, responsibilities or tasks but an explanation of who you are and more importantly of who you will be. The CLP and Tri-Fold are designed with the express purpose of demonstrating why you should be interviewed. With so many candidates in the pool we need a separation; the Tri-Fold and CLP are designed to be just those documents. (Please see our book or website on how to write a narrative, the descriptor, the accomplishment report, the tear sheet, and a "get that next job" cover letter and resume). The cover letter has to be specific to company, market segment, people and vision for the future. ***We also suggest that you include the Candidate Needs Asseassment document with the CLP.

The author feels strongly that the CLP should only be used for candidates who are seeking a C level position. The product can however be used in industries where format is more formal. The Tri-Fold, however, can serve well the applicant’s pursuit of any other position within the company. The one exception to this thought is that the CLP can be used as a presentation/demonstration document for an interview setting in association with the contents of the second Tri-Fold.

We welcome your input as you begin to develop this product. As with all the other get that next job documents is incumbent upon the preparer to demonstrate succinctly and accurately who the candidate was, is and most importantly who they will be after hire. In reading for my book and paraphrasing a paragraph used to explain the narrative, the CLP can become the single most potent tool that any C. level candidate can have in their arsenal of transition marketing products when preparing the CLP described the candidate as if you would the recruiter marketing them as we say in the book, in reality, you are we to understand that this exercise in the creation of the CLP is not easy. It forces you to really think about you differently. But it is imperative that you remember the purpose for the Tri-Fold and the CLP which is to allow you "to get past the herd and be heard." As with all of our materials, your mantra should be: "tasks are normally dismissed, measurable accomplishments are always recognized."

One other document that you could include in the CLP is the candidate needs assessment which can be found in the book or on the website this document will allow any hiring authority to not only know what you've done and what you can do but more importantly to see your professional goals and motivators.

Like the Tri-Fold, the CLP allows you to become the "total candidate!"

Just as the other Tri-Fold documents, there are 3 CLP's; 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The contents are similar. As we have said above the primary difference is in the production values. Each CLP however also does include a cover letter, a tear sheet, a CNA and an accomplishment based resume.

***Unlike our Tri-Folds, We do not feel that a company logo is appropriate for the CLP.
